Horse Barn in Loudoun County VA

In May of 2019, we started construction on a 24 stall, horse barn at a property in Loudoun County, VA.

Our design approach was to make the space not only functional but warm and inviting. We wanted a traditional design that was comfortable for the horses and also for visitors to the barn. Where we could, we added design flairs that fit with the client’s personal style.

In keeping with that theme, we elected to have stone floors and use exposed wood for the walls and the stables. Wrought iron was used to decorate light fixtures, door handles, and padlocks. The ceilings were built high to allow for ventilation and make the space feel more open.

Where we could, we tried to incorporate more natural lighting. Either through the exterior openings in the stalls, the large windows within the roof, or the large doors at the sides and the front of the building. Electric lighting on the interiors/exteriors as well as a large, ornate chandelier at the center of the building made the place feel more comfortable at night.

Each stall was designed to be functional for the support of the horses and came fully equipped with water, troughs, bars, and locks. Each stall also featured exterior and interior exits.
Within the building, we added bathrooms for visitors, a comfortable changing room, and shower stalls for the horses.

The exterior was painted white, with the doors painted a bright blue to accent the exterior of the building. Trees, flowers, and assorted plants were added within the building’s surroundings.
The project was completed on schedule in July of 2019.
